Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

While on holiday I read Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Every time I go on a plane I buy a new book from the book store in the small airport (Last time it was 'House of Secrets').
I found it impossible to put this book down, even to the point of feeling ill on the car ride to San Diego.

"This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.
Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.
But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart ..."

While reading it I found myself picturing the Hemsworth brothers as the two princes XD

The author manages to create an entire world and society while still following Mare Barrow's story. With romance, adventure, mystery and super powers there is something for everyone. Once again a story has thrown this girl several suitors, I found my self constantly questioning my decision on my ship, truth be told I eventually gave up. Mare Barrow isn't just rough around the edges, she rough pretty much the whole way through - a bitter girl with a boiling hatred for the silvers who oppress herself, her family and her kind. She is trying to do the right thing but with lies and secrets how is supposed to know who's her friend and who's plotting against her?

I would definitely recommend this book to teen readers; 5 stars!
I can't wait to read the sequel, after I've waded through my library books.
I have a pile of new books and a pile of library books and a mountain of school work, not to mention dance and cosplay. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever finish books at the rate I'm buying/borrowing them XD

Catch you later xx
