Is this a thing yet?

Fractured Fairytale: Princess and the Pea

Another Hans Christian Andersen story about a prince looking for a princess. The problem is, the prince is very picky! Every princess that visits his castle apparently has something wrong with her; bad table manners or being too thin are apparently big no-no's if you are a true princess.

The story goes that one night a beautiful young woman turns up at the castle, drenched in rain and claiming to be a princess. The prince's mother lets the princess in and decides to test her. She prepares a bed with 20 mattresses and 20 feather-beds, placing a single pea under the lot.

After a completely sleepless night the princess meets the prince and his mother for breakfast, complaining of what little sleep she got the prince realizes that only a TRUE princess would be so sensitive and they were married.

Now don't even get me started on the fact that the pea did not completely disintegrate under the weight of 40 pieces of bedding, and a person. No instead I'm going to talk about the unrealistic expectations on women by the prince? Too fat/thin not beautiful or having bad table manners? He's lucky he found someone at all!

What I do like about this story however is the fact it is the Prince looking for a princess, not the other way around. That being said, I much prefer the version where the Princess leaves after feeling she has been treated badly, having to climb 40 pieces of bedding and then not even sleeping well? Unacceptable, so in the morning she leaves. That right there is an independent woman who doesn't take crap from anybody!

Sweet dreams! xox
